Treatment Center Daily Life
Legacy Treatment Center and Juniper Canyon Treatment Center for Women are licensed by the State of Utah as Residential Treatment Centers. Legacy Treatment Center and Juniper Canyon Recovery Center for Women are also accredited by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
The buildings at the treatment center (which we call “Base”), are modern, clean, comfortable cabins and spacious lodges located in a quiet, secluded valley surrounded by nature. Clients spend a few days each week at Base, where they can be thoroughly supported and engage in regular individual and daily group therapy, have access to a nurse and medical doctor, and in some cases receive weekly evaluations from a psychiatrist.
The primary purpose for returning to Base each week is to focus on intensive clinical programming. During Base days, each client participates in multiple individual and group therapy sessions facilitated by licensed therapists. The previous week’s adventure is debriefed to identify therapeutic progress, and the following week’s adventure is planned around individual treatment objectives. Time at Base also allows clients to practice basic life skills such as doing laundry, showering, and taking care of personal hygiene. While in the first phase of the program, clients eat balanced, healthy meals prepared by our chef and help with serving and cleaning up. Once they have moved to Summit House, clients plan and prepare their own meals.
The intention behind effectively utilizing our Base is to maximize the therapeutic benefit of the adventure and Wilderness Therapy, and to create an effective level of synergy between adventure and residential treatment. Transitions are an integral part of young adult life, and returning to Base gives our clients an opportunity to practice transitions each week.
