Treating Kratom Dependence in Young Adults
We treat young adults using kratom for energy, mood regulation, pain relief, or opioid withdrawal self-management. Our team provides healing and support to individuals experiencing kratom dependence or escalating use patterns. If you or a loved one started using kratom at a low dose and have moved to a high dose with difficulty quitting despite negative consequences, we can help.
Our clinicians treat substance use disorders involving kratom, opioids, and polysubstance use. We provide comprehensive treatment services and personalized care plans to address addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions, including anxiety, trauma, and emotional dysregulation. Our evidence-based kratom addiction treatment is grounded in clinical research and behavioral health models.
We use therapy and psychoeducation to help clients understand how kratom’s interactions with opioid receptors, including
7-hydroxymitragynine, affect mental and physical wellness. Our residential programs use trauma-informed care and individualized care designed to stabilize mental health and substance use patterns. We offer long-term recovery care planning focused on behavioral change rather than symptom reduction, helping people address the root causes of their condition and develop healthy behavioral patterns and responses.
Our Unique Residential Treatment Experience
Our licensed residential treatment center (RTC) in Utah uses a 90-day structured treatment model focused on stabilization, insight, and recovery skills. We help clients with individualized treatment planning based on kratom use patterns, mental health history, and functional impact on their quality of life. Residential substance abuse treatment includes adventure therapy integrated 3 days per week and clinical therapy 4 days per week.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services include buprenorphine support when indicated for opioid-related dependence. We also have psychiatric medication management available as needed for clients with co-occurring mental health disorders or severe withdrawal symptoms. The structured environment is designed to support withdrawal system management, emotional regulation, and relapse prevention. Our treatment program focuses on helping clients build sustainable routines and reduce compulsive behaviors.

How Kratom Dependence Affects Daily Life
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there is no approved medical use for kratom. Regularly using the substance can cause liver damage, unintentional weight loss, high blood pressure, nausea and vomiting, constipation, and muscle pain. The pain, discomfort, and preventable health issues caused by kratom use can lead to depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.

Physical and Emotional Symptoms
You may experience a range of kratom withdrawal symptoms such as fatigue, irritation, insomnia or other sleep disturbances, anxiety, mood instability, emotional dysregulation, and cravings.

Integrated Treatment for Substance Use and Mental Health

Kratom and Substance Use Disorders
People who use kratom have an increased risk of polysubstance use and cross-dependence.
We offer kratom addiction treatment within broader care. Our comprehensive, tailored program uses behavioral therapy for relapse prevention. During the initial intake interview, clinicians conduct a comprehensive review of the client’s medical history and current health to ensure an accurate diagnosis.
Co-Occurring Mental Health Treatment
Some of the co-occurring conditions we treat include generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), major depressive disorder (MDD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and bipolar disorder. Dual diagnosis treatment provides the best outcomes for people struggling with multiple substance use or mental health issues.
When to Seek Help for the Use of Kratom
Kratom use often starts as an easy way to gain energy, manage pain, or reduce anxiety. However, self-medicating with potentially addictive supplements like kratom can have dangerous side effects. Being able to recognize when to seek help can reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms.
Warning Signs of Dependence
Warning signs of addiction to kratom products include increasing frequency of use or dosage to achieve the same effect, difficulty stopping despite adverse effects, withdrawal symptoms during episodes of abstinence, and loss of control. The stimulant effects kratom users experience may become more challenging to achieve without changing to higher doses as the body becomes tolerant to the drug and develops dependency.

Frequently Asked Questions
Kratom is a supplement made from leaves of the evergreen tree, Mitragyna Speciosa, found primarily in Malaysia, Thailand, and other areas in Southeast Asia. The unregulated nature of supplements makes it impossible for people using the substance to know how much of the kratom leaves each dose will contain. The psychoactive alkaloids of kratom, such as mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, act as partial mu opioid agonists and can lead to kratom dependence.
Physical dependence and addiction cause withdrawal symptoms. Some of the most common physical symptoms of kratom withdrawal include muscle spasms, sleep disturbances, fever, runny nose, hot flashes, decreased appetite, and diarrhea. Psychological withdrawal symptoms and side effects may include restlessness, agitation, tension, anxiety, anger, sadness, and nervousness. Symptoms exist along a spectrum, and people with co-occurring conditions or who have abused kratom at higher doses may experience more severe withdrawal side effects.
Yes. Kratom use leads to opioid dependence or addiction for some people. Because the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has not classified it as a controlled substance, the drug exists in a legal gray area that makes it more accessible and easier to abuse. People may abuse kratom and then begin using illicit opioids.
Yes. We provide MAT support as needed to ensure physical and emotional well-being. Our MAT services do not include long-term Suboxone maintenance.
