Our Men’s Rehab Center: Nature-Based Healing

Research supports the use of outdoor behavioral healthcare as an effective means of improving mental health and overall wellness. We utilize the healing power of wilderness experiences to reduce distractions, evoke mindfulness, and stimulate emotional, spiritual, and physical healing. Our program’s personalized treatment plans are updated regularly to meet individual needs.

What Sets Us Apart

Our approach to treatment goes beyond traditional models by combining clinical sophistication, structured care, and measurable outcomes. At Legacy, every aspect of the program is intentionally designed to support deep, lasting healing, not just short-term stabilization.

Adventure Therapy Integrated With Clinical Treatment

Our program combines adventure therapy three days per week with over 20 hours of structured clinical therapy. This balanced approach helps clients apply therapeutic insights in real-world settings, building resilience, confidence, and emotional regulation in a way that traditional settings often cannot replicate.

Individualized, Whole-Person Treatment
Plans

Every client receives a personalized treatment plan based on a comprehensive evaluation of their mental health, substance use, trauma history, and lifestyle factors. We treat the whole person by integrating clinical care, experiential work, and personal development into one cohesive process.

Trauma-Informed, Clinically Sophisticated
Approach

All care is delivered through a trauma-informed lens, ensuring emotional safety while addressing the underlying drivers of substance use and mental health challenges. Our licensed clinicians provide advanced therapeutic interventions in a structured, supportive environment.

Structured Residential Setting With High Clinical Engagement

As a licensed residential treatment center (RTC), we provide a highly structured environment that supports consistency, accountability, and focus. Clients engage in a full weekly schedule of therapy, adventure-based experiences, and guided reflection designed to promote sustainable change.

Low Client-to-Staff Ratio and Personalized
Attention

With a limited number of clients, our team is able to provide focused, individualized attention. This allows for deeper therapeutic relationships, more responsive care, and a treatment experience tailored to each client’s needs and goals.

Aftercare & Long-Term Recovery
Planning

We believe in comprehensive care and, as such, work with clients for long-term recovery planning. The Summit Graduation Phase is our way of ensuring that clients transition from treatment with the skills and planning needed for success. This program is embedded in our 90-day program and includes referrals and resources for further support post-treatment.

Benefits of Our Wilderness Rehab Program for Men

Men in our gender-specific programs spend three days a week engaging in adventure therapy or other outdoor therapeutic activities. Clients benefit from high staff-to-client attention, therapeutic mentoring, and support from clinicians, field guides, and a medically trained team, including psychiatrists and nurses, who ensure safety and provide holistic care tailored to each participant.

Adventure Therapy

Our rehab facilities use adventure therapy and other experiential therapies to help clients build resilience, confidence, and essential life skills. The men’s rehab program uses wilderness experiences and adventure activities to treat drug abuse and co-occurring disorders.

Clinical Treatment

Legacy’s addiction treatment centers use clinical assessments to accurately diagnose clients and ensure they receive appropriate care. Our clinicians provide high-quality care for clients with substance use disorder (SUD) or dual diagnosis. Our drug and alcohol addiction treatment programs for men use evidence-based therapies to treat co-occurring mental illness, with clients attending four weekly clinical therapy sessions.

Trauma-Informed Care

All of our staff have trauma-informed training to ensure they provide clients with a safe space for recovery. We use trauma therapy and other treatment services to stabilize individuals with a history of trauma. Our recovery center builds trust with clients by educating people about the relationship between behavioral health, trauma, and addiction.

Weekly Progress Monitoring

Our health care experts use weekly progress monitoring to ensure clients remain on track to meet their recovery goals. We tailor care plans based on changes in client needs.

Clinicians at our drug and alcohol rehab prepare clients for sober living by providing comprehensive care and planning for every level of care. We help men navigate all levels of care, including medical detox, inpatient rehab, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), partial hospitalization programs (PHP), outpatient treatment, and aftercare support.

Trusted, Accredited Care With Lasting Results

Our team has played a significant role in advancing research and recognition of wilderness therapy — our co-founder, Derek Daley, has collaborated internationally to expand awareness of the efficacy of outdoor behavioral health care. We are licensed by the State of Utah, accredited by the Joint Commission, and recognized by respected bodies in Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare.

What to Expect From Our Recovery Program

Our men-only recovery program offers a wide range of clinical therapy sessions and therapeutic groups. Clinicians and field staff use individual therapy, group processing, family therapy, and experiential outdoor programming to help clients develop critical skills. Men learn creative problem-solving, effective communication, goal setting, reflection, resilience, and other skills. The recovery-focused community support and clinical modalities we provide help men build a solid foundation for a healthier future.

Structured Daily Programming

People recovering from chronic alcohol or drug use benefit from the structured daily schedule of our inpatient program. Clients have time in the morning for reflection and goal setting, then have the option to participate in individual or group therapy throughout the afternoon and evening, followed by some free time. We provide three nutritious meals per day and help clients create a healthy sleep routine.

We also offer medication management as needed for withdrawal symptoms or co-occurring conditions. Our intake specialists use comprehensive assessments to determine if clients may benefit from medication management during rehab.

Holistic Care

Wildcraft is the practice of traditional outdoor skills, things like building a fire with a bow drill, tying knots, setting up shelter, and learning to be genuinely capable in a natural setting. At Juniper Canyon, these skills are taught patiently and built up over time. Each new skill a woman masters is real, visible proof that she can learn, adapt, and take care of herself.

Integrated Mental Health Care for Men

We treat substance use disorders with our personalized addiction or dual diagnosis treatment plans. Our integrative approach provides drug rehab treatment options and simultaneous care for co-occurring mental health disorders and trauma.

Program Features for Long-Term Addiction Recovery

We support long-term addiction recovery with our ongoing and alumni services. Our care team provides relapse prevention and aftercare planning, referrals to community-based recovery programs, and other resources.

Relapse Prevention

Clinicians use relapse prevention education and planning to prepare clients for ongoing recovery. We ensure that men feel confident in their ability to manage their condition independently before transitioning to lower levels of care.

Loved One and Family Involvement

We offer family therapy and other support services to assist clients and their loved ones with strengthening or repairing relationships damaged by substance abuse. Family engagement in the recovery process often plays a critical role in the healing process for men in rehab.

Alumni Programs

Recovery does not end at graduation, and we ensure our clients remain supported through robust alumni programs. These programs offer ongoing connection, mentorship, and community engagement opportunities for former participants, helping them apply the lessons learned in the wilderness to everyday life.

Alumni gatherings, peer support networks, and continued check-ins create a sense of belonging that reinforces accountability and strengthens long-term recovery. By fostering lifelong relationships and access to supportive resources, the alumni program plays a vital role in sustaining progress and preventing relapse.

When Men Need Residential Treatment for Addiction

Early intervention and professional treatment help people with chronic addiction to alcohol, opioids, or other substances avoid long-term side effects. Some common signs it is time to seek help for addiction treatment include an inability to stop abusing substances despite negative consequences, withdrawal symptoms during periods of abstinence, excessive mood swings, unintended weight loss or gain, sleep disturbances, and reduced quality of life.
