Why Utah and Why Legacy?

Mental health challenges, such as trauma, mental health disorders, and/or addiction, can be immensely overwhelming to deal with. Modern society is full of triggers that can make it difficult for someone to recover in peace. With so many distractions, it can be easy to get lost in your pain. That’s why it’s sometimes best for someone to choose a different location to recover in that’s free from these distractions and triggers, especially when specialized care is not readily available.
Leaving your comfort zone opens up new doors for growth and transformation. A new environment with structured clinical care and trauma-informed adventure therapy can accelerate desired change and help you discover who you are. This life-saving care offers not just an opportunity to heal, but to reconnect with yourself who has been buried under trauma and pain. In these cases, seeking treatments outside your hometown or even your home state can give you access to specialized mental health programs and a safer environment conducive to healing.

The Therapeutic Power of Stepping Away From New York

Legacy distinguishes itself from commercial treatment centers by offering a personalized and quality experience for each of our clients. This experience can be the key to helping out-of-state residents find a new environment to kickstart their recovery journey.

What Makes Legacy’s Program Unique

Legacy is licensed by the state of Utah to provide mental health and addiction treatment. This includes accreditation from the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Council (OBH) and the Joint Commission, which ensures that our outdoor therapy program is safe and effective.
We take a personalized approach to treatment, with a maximum capacity of 24 clients separated in a men’s and women’s program. This allows us to address the unique needs of each client while providing a truly unique recovery experience.

A World-Class, Outcome-Informed Treatment Model

Our treatment approach is rooted in outcome-informed, client-centered treatment. This includes weekly progress monitoring to ensure measurable, meaningful results. Tracking and refining this data allows us to provide effective therapeutic wilderness experiences that promote lasting change and recovery.

Trauma-Informed Adventure Therapy

Our evidence-based practices are sensitive to the needs of our clients, especially those who struggle with trauma. We understand the impact trauma can have on individuals, and as such, we curate a supportive environment that fosters healing.

Some aspects of adventure therapy, such as equine therapy, are there to promote connection and pace. Others, like team exercises, are designed to empower participants to trust in each other to accomplish a goal. This helps our clients not just heal from trauma, but come out of our program as empowered individuals.

Who We Serve

Legacy serves young adults between the ages of 18 and 35+ who are struggling with addiction, trauma, and/or co-occurring mental health challenges. Clients must be motivated, willing to seek meaningful life changes, and prepared to stick with treatment. As we utilize adventure therapy and the wilderness as part of our treatment program, clients must be physically and mentally capable enough to participate in these activities safely. New York families seeking care with us must have strong out-of-network insurance.

What We Treat

Legacy is prepared to help clients struggling with a wide variety of mental health challenges. This includes substance abuse, substance use disorder (SUD), addiction, and other co-occurring mental health disorders. Some examples of other mental health challenges we can also treat include:
Eating disorders
Self-harm
Outpatient treatment
Low self-esteem
Trauma
Depression
Behavioral issues
Anxiety
Lack of motivation
Fear of failure, trust, and social connections
Having two or more mental health challenges occurring at the same time is known as a dual diagnosis. Substance use issues rarely occur alone. As such, Legacy is fully equipped to provide specialized dual diagnosis treatment as needed for each client.

Who We Help

Consistent Communication Transparent Admissions

Our admissions team is here to help your family find the best treatment for your loved one. Once you contact us, our admissions team works closely with you to make the enrollment process as stress-free as possible. As we provide outdoor behavioral therapy, clients must be physically and cognitively able to safely participate.

Each client undergoes a comprehensive assessment to identify their personal needs and goals. Weekly progress meetings ensure communication continues to flow between clients and their providers, which allows for program adjustments as needed.

Family Involvement
and Weekly Updates

Legacy Outdoor Adventures believes in the power of family when it comes to healing, as family involvement can provide the support needed for lasting sobriety and mental wellness. We provide a family program that includes weekly therapeutic updates, regular family therapy sessions via video conference, psychoeducational webinars, and virtual life parent support groups for New York families.

Alumni Community & Continued Support

Completing our residential program is only one step in the recovery journey. We assist clients in stepping out of and into other levels of care, such as moving from detox to residential treatment, residential to outpatient therapies, and aftercare services post-treatment. Legacy regularly engages with all our alumni, many of whom join our local sober community and return as guides to help others seek recovery.
