Wilderness & Adventure Therapy for Young Adults in Idaho

Legacy Outdoor Adventures provides evidence-based and alternative residential treatment for substance use disorder (SUD), trauma, and mental health disorders. We use our wilderness therapy program in Utah to treat men and women 18 years or older.

Legacy

Licensed Residential Treatment Center for Idaho Residents

Legacy Outdoor Adventures treats young people and adults ages 18 and older struggling with behavioral health, substance use, trauma, or mental health issues. Our programs address low self-esteem, self-confidence challenges, behavioral issues, substance use, co-occurring mental health concerns, and difficulties forming healthy relationships.

Legacy’s evidence-based residential treatment uses family therapy combined with adventure therapy, equine therapy, and structured clinical sessions to improve self-esteem, emotional regulation, and life skills, and to help clients express their true selves.

Our client-to-staff ratio and personalized care create a support environment with small groups that ensure individualized attention and measurable progress through outcome-informed care. Our 90-day primary program allows Idaho-based clients to attend Legacy’s Utah campus, where a safe, structured, adventure-based environment sets the stage for lasting recovery.

What Sets Legacy Outdoor Adventures Apart?

Legacy Outdoor Adventures is a premier, evidence-based residential treatment program dedicated to delivering the highest standard of clinical care. Our approach is rooted in outcome-informed, client-centered treatment. We don’t just believe in what we do – we track it, refine it, and have the data to prove its effectiveness.

Licensed Residential Treatment Center

We serve clients from Southern Idaho to North Carolina. Our care team is fully licensed and accredited to provide counseling and wilderness therapy to clients 18 and older. The experts at Legacy Outdoor Adventures use an outcome-informed program and evidence-based treatment plans to tailor care to each client’s specific needs.

We can also refer troubled teens under 18 to Bluefire Wilderness Therapy or other programs for adolescents and high school teens.

Adventure Therapy Program

Our residential program has structured wilderness and outdoor adventure activities 3 days a week to support personal growth and skill development. Adventure therapy has been proven to improve treatment outcomes for individuals with SUD, trauma-related mental health issues, and dual diagnosis.

Clinical Therapy and Trauma-Informed Care

Clients attend 4 days a week of individual and group therapy using cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based interventions to address the underlying causes of trauma and addiction. Trauma-informed care ensures people feel comfortable and safe during the rehabilitation process, reducing stress and the risk of relapse.

Family Engagement and Support

Legacy Outdoor Adventures encourages families to engage in the treatment process. Our care team uses family therapy and other services to strengthen communication and rebuild trust between family members. Families can also participate in facility events.

Small Client-to-Staff Ratio

A small client-to-staff ratio allows us to offer personalized care and measurable progress tracking for each client. Tailored services reduce the risk of relapse and improve treatment adherence. The small size of our programs gives everyone an opportunity to share their experiences, concerns, and hopes during group therapy and other peer engagement activities.

Holistic Approach to Wellness

Our whole-person approach to treatment integrates mental health, behavioral health, life skills, and therapeutic adventure to provide a comprehensive healing experience. We believe the mind and body need to heal together for a person to truly recover from the damaging effects of addiction or mental health disorders.

Program Highlights: Idaho Adventure Therapy

Legacy’s adventure therapy in Utah serves clients coming from Idaho, helping them find lasting recovery through evidence-based, proven treatment methods.

Individualized Treatment
Plans

We use weekly monitoring and tailored interventions for young people and adults in our wilderness programs. The individualized treatment programs and care plans identify the root causes of mental health or addiction issues. Clients learn to manage their condition effectively through healthy coping skills, self-care, and relapse-prevention strategies.

Group Therapy and Social Skills Development

Legacy Outdoor Adventures supports peer interaction, healthy relationships, and self-confidence. We believe that people heal more effectively together, through mutual support and empowerment. Group therapy encourages peers to learn critical communication and interpretation skills, such as setting clear boundaries and resolving conflicts.

Outdoor and Equine Therapy Activities

We offer experiential therapy, including adventure-based activities and equine therapy, to enhance personal growth. Spending time outdoors with peers or staff engaging in equine therapy or other activities often improves emotional and mood regulation. The skills learned can help you overcome challenges on your healing journey.

Adventure-Based Life Skills and Wellness Programs

Our programs teach structured outdoor survival skills, creative problem-solving, and resilience-building exercises. Therapeutic wilderness survival activities empower young people to overcome challenges in recovery and promote personal growth. For example, everyone pitches in to set up base camp during outdoor events, teaching young people responsibility and accountability.

What to Expect: Daily Life & Routine

Legacy Outdoor Adventures uses a structured therapeutic approach to create tailored daily routines that help each person meet their recovery goals. Daily life in residential care includes the following:

  • Balanced and nutritious meals
  • Regular physical activity
  • Outdoor therapy
  • One-on-one and group counseling
  • Wilderness camps
  • Family engagement in treatment
Our camps vary depending on clients’ preferences and needs. For example, some struggling adults may benefit from a boot camp-like experience, while others thrive in a low-stress environment.

Additional Supports for Idaho Residents

The tools we use at Legacy support clients and set them up for success when returning home, ensuring they succeed in their daily lives after leaving our facility.

Medication Management

We offer medication management and clinical oversight for mental health or substance use disorders. Clients with co-occurring conditions and severe or persistent withdrawal symptoms may benefit from our medication management services. Our clinical team carefully monitors medication usage and effectiveness.

Relapse Prevention Planning

Our team works closely with each client and their families to develop comprehensive relapse-prevention plans and aftercare strategies for sustainable recovery. Relapse prevention education and planning provide clients and their families with clear steps to follow if they encounter unexpected challenges during treatment, aftercare, or ongoing recovery.

Peer Support

Treatment programs at Legacy Outdoor Adventures prioritize peer engagement and community building. Spending time with peers in group therapy or activities provides people with a safe space to learn beside people with similar life experiences. We use a combination of group and individual therapy to ensure no one feels overlooked or pressured to participate in certain activities.

Alumni Engagement

We encourage alumni to participate in weekly calls, reunions, and mentorship opportunities at Legacy Outdoor Adventures. Alumni also play an important role in clients’ lasting sobriety. Many alumni work in their local communities to create a safe, inclusive space where everyone feels welcome.

Treatment Options and What We Treat

Nonprofit programs and treatment centers in Gooding or other towns in Idaho may not offer the same high-quality care and treatment options as Legacy Outdoor Adventures. We treat a wide range of conditions using evidence-based care, including:

  • Substance use disorders, including alcohol, drugs, and prescription medications
  • Co-occurring mental health challenges, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and behavioral issues
  • Trauma due to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and other causes

Some of the treatments we provide include behavioral therapy and evidence-based adventure therapy interventions. Our programs use skill development and other tools to improve self-esteem, build self-confidence, and support personal growth.

When to Seek Help

Most people experiencing addiction or mental health issues do not recognize they need help. Family members frequently need to prompt them to get treatment through interventions or empathetic ultimatums. Legacy Outdoor Adventures provides information, advice, support, and other resources for families concerned for a loved one who might have SUD or a mental health disorder.

Common signs that indicate residential treatment may be needed include:

  • Repeated relapses
  • Inability to maintain personal accountability
  • Behavioral struggles
  • Mental health challenges
  • Living in an unsafe environment
  • Difficulty maintaining daily responsibilities
Empathetic guidance encourages early intervention and hope. We provide intervention support to families and streamline the intake process to facilitate early treatment. Our clinicians collaborate with families and walk alongside them through every stage of rehabilitation.
