Adventure Therapy & Mental Health Treatment for Florida Young Adults

Legacy Outdoor Adventures provides tailored addiction and mental health care to young people and adults. We offer a modern, clinically grounded therapeutic program that uses wilderness experiences to enhance the effectiveness of traditional therapy. Our residential and outpatient adventure therapy programs accept people aged 18 and older with SUD or dual diagnosis.

A Structured Residential Treatment Experience

Our approach to healing includes structured daily schedules for clients in our licensed residential treatment program. Clients attend therapy 4 days a week and adventure therapy 3 days a week. Most people have a 90-day primary treatment focus with extended lengths of stay when needed to transition through levels of care safely.

Our low client-to-staff support model facilitates personalized treatment plans, a holistic focus on personal growth, and lasting recovery. Clinicians provide residential clients with psychiatric medication management when appropriate to reduce symptoms and improve overall well-being.

Why Families From Florida Choose Legacy Outdoor Adventures

Our approach to treatment goes beyond traditional models by combining clinical sophistication, structured care, and measurable outcomes. At Legacy, every aspect of the program is intentionally designed to support deep, lasting healing, not just short-term stabilization.

Adventure Therapy Integrated With Clinical Treatment

Our program combines adventure therapy three days per week with over 20 hours of structured clinical therapy. This balanced approach helps clients apply therapeutic insights in real-world settings, building resilience, confidence, and emotional regulation in a way that traditional settings often cannot replicate.

Individualized, Whole-Person Treatment
Plans

Every client receives a personalized treatment plan based on a comprehensive evaluation of their mental health, substance use, trauma history, and lifestyle factors. We treat the whole person by integrating clinical care, experiential work, and personal development into one cohesive process.

Trauma-Informed, Clinically Sophisticated
Approach

All care is delivered through a trauma-informed lens, ensuring emotional safety while addressing the underlying drivers of substance use and mental health challenges.  Our licensed clinicians provide advanced therapeutic interventions in a structured, supportive environment.

Structured Residential Setting With High Clinical Engagement

As a licensed residential treatment center (RTC), we provide a highly structured environment that supports consistency, accountability, and focus. Clients engage in a full weekly schedule of therapy, adventure-based experiences, and guided reflection designed to promote sustainable change.

Low Client-to-Staff Ratio and Personalized
Attention

With a limited number of clients, our team can provide focused, individualized attention. This allows for deeper therapeutic relationships, more responsive care, and a treatment experience tailored to each client’s needs and goals.

Aftercare & Long-Term Recovery
Planning

We believe in comprehensive care and, as such, work with clients for long-term recovery planning. The Summit Graduation Phase is our way of ensuring that clients transition from treatment with the skills and planning needed for success. This program is embedded in our 90-day program and includes referrals and resources for further support post-treatment.

Benefits of Our Adventure Therapy Program

Florida residents benefit from the emotional, physical, and spiritual healing provided by our adventure therapy program. Field staff use the wilderness experience to teach clients essential life skills, including teamwork and creative problem-solving. Residential treatment with a focus on outdoor therapy sessions gives young people a break from social media, environmental triggers at home, and other distractions that may interfere with recovery.

Individual Therapy

Our residential program uses personalized therapy sessions and group therapy to assist clients with trauma processing, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, and realistic goal setting.

Evidence-Based Clinical Care

Our evidence-based clinical care includes psychoeducation, family therapy, group therapy, psychiatric support when appropriate, one-on-one talk therapy, life skills development, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) when necessary. Wilderness therapy enhances the effectiveness of our other treatment services.

Adventure Therapy & Outdoor Activities

Outdoor physical activity has been proven to improve mood and mental wellness. We use evidence-based treatments and adventure therapy to help clients strengthen their emotional and physical health. Adventure therapy sessions may include rock climbing, camping, hiking, and other activities of various skill levels.

Personalized Treatment Plans

We offer customized treatment planning and practice a whole-person approach to care that looks beyond the disease of addiction to address underlying causes.  Clinicians use integrated mental health and substance use treatment to support long-term recovery planning. We collaborate with clients to create personalized treatment plans and holistic healing goals.

A Structured Approach to Healing & Recovery

Our residential programs use structure and consistency to help clients heal and recover from substance abuse. Daily schedules include morning routines, goal setting, therapy sessions, community engagement, psychoeducation, wellness-focused routines, and self-reflection. In addition to traditional talk therapy, we also use outdoor therapy experiences, guided wilderness activities, and experiential learning.

Our structured approach to rehabilitation uses physical movement, confidence-building exercises, and recreational experiences to help clients develop healthy coping skills. Outdoor activities provide clients with opportunities for personal growth and prepare them to overcome challenges in long-term recovery.

Mental Health & Substance Abuse Treatment Programs

Mental health directly impacts physical recovery from substance abuse and lasting sobriety. We utilize evidence-based and holistic mental health treatments. Clinicians at Legacy Outdoor Adventures treats addiction and mental health disorders simultaneously to reduce the risk of relapse and improve treatment adherence.

Many people with SUD have past trauma affecting their emotional wellness and general well-being. We use trauma therapy and other trauma-informed treatments to help clients heal.

Substance Use & Co-Occurring Disorders

We treat a wide range of co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions, including alcohol use disorder (AUD), prescription medication misuse, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. Legacy Outdoor Adventures treats co-occurring mental health disorders with group and individual therapy, prescription medication when appropriate, and community engagement.

Trauma & Behavioral Health Challenges

Unaddressed trauma can cause emotional dysregulation, behavioral issues, anxiety, and depression. People with a history of trauma often experience identity and self-worth struggles. We help clients recover from trauma, build resilience, and improve self-worth with individual and group therapy.

Legacy Outdoor Adventures understands that trauma can make it challenging for some people to trust the care team. We help clients overcome these barriers to recovery and ensure they feel comfortable working with our clinicians and support staff.

Knowing When to Reach Out for Help

Early intervention and treatment reduce the risk of relapse or severe complications during recovery. Recognizing when to seek help can have a profound impact on your mental and physical health.

Signs Your Loved One May Need Professional Support

Understanding the warning signs of addiction can help if you have concerns about a loved one who struggles with substance use. Some of the most common signs of dependency and addiction include an inability to stop using the substance, requiring a higher dose of the substance to achieve the same effects, continuing to abuse the substance despite negative consequences, extreme mood swings, significant unexplained weight loss or gain, unusual lack of personal hygiene, and social withdrawal.

People who misuse prescription medications may “doctor shop” to get multiple prescriptions from different doctors for the same drug or hoard medications. If you notice warning signs of substance dependence or addiction, we can help. Early intervention reduces the risk of long-term health side effects.

Early Intervention Can Create Lasting Change

We encourage families to contact our office if they need help providing support or intervening on behalf of a loved one experiencing SUD. Family interventions and early treatment minimize side effects and create lasting change by providing people with healthy alternatives for coping with stress. We can provide guidance and help families navigate the intervention and intake process.

Integrated Support for Long-Term Healing

We use integrated care to support long-term healing from substance abuse and dual diagnosis. Our wilderness therapy and clinical modalities give clients the tools to manage their condition during rehabilitation and ongoing recovery. Integrative care and personalized treatment plans allow us to easily adjust treatment services as needed to meet changing client needs.

Outcome-Informed Care & Progress Monitoring

We focus on outcome-oriented care and monitor client progress throughout treatment. Regularly checking in with clients and carefully monitoring changes in client needs improves treatment adherence by allowing us to address issues before they interfere with recovery. Tailored care also ensures we help clients transition smoothly between levels of care when it best serves their recovery.

Alumni Support & Long-Term Recovery

We provide long-term recovery support for alumni, including regular phone check-ins and access to continued group meetings. Clinicians provide referrals for outpatient or aftercare services and continue to offer clinical consultation and referral support as needed to help alumni overcome challenges in recovery.

Supportive Community Environment

Our residential facility offers people in recovery a supportive community environment where they feel heard, valued, understood, and empowered. We encourage family members and alumni to participate in community events and activities. Clients benefit from engaging with alumni and peers in different stages of recovery.
