Drug Rehab in Utah: Our Program Overview

Legacy Outdoor Adventures goes beyond traditional substance addiction and mental health treatment programs. We offer personal growth through the challenges our adventure program brings. Legacy’s sophisticated, evidence-based approach leverages experiential therapy’s focus on nature as a healer. Our outcome-focused care creates a transformative experience that will guide you to be the person you can be.

Our programs include:
  • 90-Day Primary Treatment Program Overview – When you begin your program with us, you will join others at “Base.” This is what we call our cabins and lodges. You will spend a few days each week here, and the rest will be in nature. Once you have completed your first steps to treatment, you will meet with your therapist to create a treatment plan. While at Base, you will participate in individual and group therapy. And you will learn life skills like showering and doing laundry. After you complete your time at Base, you will move to Summit House. Here you will become more independent.
  • Weekly Progress Monitoring and Results Tracking – When you’re with us, we monitor your progress to ensure you meet your goals.
  • Adventure Therapy and Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare – These proven modalities support your recovery.
  • Collaboration With Our Medical Director – If you have any medical needs, your therapist will collaborate with the doctor to ensure you receive the necessary care.
  • Medication Management – Whether you are taking or need medication, we ensure you receive the correct dosage.
  • Focus on Relapse Prevention – We aim to help you learn healthy coping skills that you can carry for lasting recovery.

Our Levels of Care

We know you may need a more or less intensive treatment program than someone else. Once you begin your healing journey, we can decide what level of care and the type of mental health services are best for you. As you progress in your care, you can transition from one level to another.

Residential Treatment Program (RTC)

A residential treatment program means you stay with us for at least 30 days. While you are at our residential treatment center, you will feel the support of your peers and our team. A benefit of residential rehab is that you are in a safe, supportive environment that allows you to open up and share with others. Your peers can help you learn about yourself, trust others, and face challenges.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

A partial hospitalization program is an intensive, structured treatment program. You will have several hours of therapy during the day, but you can go home in the evening.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Being in an intensive outpatient program gives you the flexibility to go to work and live at home. You will attend day treatment, including therapy sessions at the center, a few hours a day on specific days.

Outpatient Treatment and Aftercare

Your time with us doesn’t end once you complete treatment. We are here to support you once you go back to your life. Our recovery program includes a graduation plan. The graduation program provides a sober living plan that includes resources, support, and planning required to thrive. You will have a purpose and a path to continue your growth.

Comprehensive Care Addressing Co-Occurring Disorders

Often, a mental health or substance addiction issue has an underlying disorder. This is called a co-occurring disorder. You may have a mental health disorder like depression that triggers substance use. An essential part of treating a SUD is providing dual diagnosis treatment and drug treatment.

Substance Use Disorder (SUD)

A substance use disorder affects your brain and behavior. The unhealthy changes in brain cells and your behavior are symptoms of not being able to control your SUD.

Drug Addictions: There are different types of drug abuse and addictions.

Some of these addictions are:
  • Opioid abuse
  • Prescription drugs
  • Heroin
  • Cocaine
  • Marijuana
  • Amphetamines
  • Alcohol addiction

Mental health disorders can affect your daily life and your relationships with loved ones. It can affect your thinking, behavior, mood, or feelings. At Legacy, we want you to know you’re not alone. We’re here to help you with comprehensive medical, mental, and behavioral health care.

Some of the mental health disorders we treat are:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Mood disorders

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma can shape our behaviors in certain situations. Traumatic events often lead to a mental health disorder, such as an anxiety disorder.

Some examples of a traumatic event or series of events are:
  • Sexual or physical assault
  • Childhood abuse
  • Neglect
  • Death of a parent or loved one
Trauma-informed care is used for people who have experienced a traumatic event. However, there isn’t one type of therapy used to address trauma. Trauma-informed care uses several kinds of treatment to help a person understand and heal.

Some of the therapies used include:
  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Equine
  • Adventure

Evidence-Based Treatment

The standard modalities for mental health or SUDs are evidence-based. These treatments are scientifically proven to be effective in mental health or SUD programs. You will receive the most effective, personalized care when you use them.

These treatments are:
  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is used to reduce symptoms of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and anxiety disorders.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) helps you manage your emotions and heal your relationships with loved ones. It mixes CBT with mindfulness skills. DBT is often used to help borderline personality disorder, depression, and anxiety disor

Holistic Approach To Drug Rehab

At Legacy Outdoor Adventures, we combine traditional therapies with holistic therapies like meditation, yoga, and outdoor activities. Our belief in holistic therapies is based on three properties.
  • The whole person
  • Natural elements
  • Personal empowerment
Here, at Legacy, we use an approach that combines the healing properties of the outdoors with personal growth to allow you to become the person you want to be. An advantage of being a drug rehab in Utah is the variety of outdoor activities. You will learn how your choices and interactions affect who you are every day. Your holistic healing includes:
  • Mindful living
  • Yoga & meditation
  • Learning the importance of rest days
  • The benefits of healthy eating
  • A focus on hygiene
  • Building a healthy sleep schedule
Adventure and experiential therapies are evidence-based, active therapies you can try when you’re here. We use these therapies because they are proven to support your recovery journey.

Adventure and Experiential Therapies

While you are with us, you can engage in talk therapy and experiential therapy. Experiential therapy highlights and prioritizes movement and action. When you engage in something or act differently, you think in a new way. One way to include experiential therapy in your treatment is to include outdoor adventures.

Henry David Thoreau, a philosopher and writer, said, “All nature is doing her best each moment to make us well—she exists for no other end. Do not resist her.” Nature has a special way of healing your whole being. Adventure therapy is a type of therapy that utilizes the healing benefits of nature to support and maintain long-term recovery. When you participate in adventure therapy, you will build a support system while learning about your addiction.

Green exercise, any activity done outside, in nature, can increase short- and long-term positive health outcomes. For example, hiking in the mountains can improve self-confidence and physical and mental health. According to the authors of “Aesthetic and Affective Response to Natural Environment,” being in nature can also be a healthy way to decrease your stress level. Outdoor activity replaces the urge to use a substance to help you destress.

Additionally, the benefits of being outside increase when you are also active. Being active releases endorphins in your body. Endorphins are the chemicals in your brain that help relieve stress. Outdoor activity can also help you as you replace your drug of choice with an activity that takes your mind off the drug and withdrawal symptoms, because outdoor exercise increases your dopamine level. The increase in your dopamine level will also help you detox from alcohol or drugs. Dopamine is a hormone and a neurotransmitter in your brain.

Its role as a neurotransmitter includes your:
  • Movement
  • Memory
  • Motivation
  • Feeling of pleasure
  • Behavior
  • Cognition
  • Mood
  • Learning
  • Sleep
  • Ability to sleep
Dopamine, as a hormone, influences your
  • Fight-or-flight syndrome
  • Blood vessels to contract or relax
  • Decreases insulin production
  • Protects your gastrointestinal health
  • Immune system
We developed our adventure therapy program at Legacy to empower you and build self-efficacy. Adventures like backpacking and mountain biking help you face and overcome fears and challenges in a supportive, safe environment. Your adventure therapy is designed with your needs in mind.

Support and Education for Families

Legacy Outdoor Adventures understands the importance of healing families. Before you came to us, they may have tried several interventions to help you. Your family is essential to your recovery. That’s why we offer family therapy that includes support and education for families. We use the attachment theory framework so you can mend relationships, improve communication, and learn about family dynamics during these sessions.

Tailored Programs for Men and Women

Men and women need to feel safe and comfortable when they’re healing. Research has proven that separate treatment programs can help men and women face and talk about their traumatic experiences, addiction, and mental health issues freely. For example, a woman may not feel comfortable sharing a traumatic experience like sexual assault in a mixed group. However, a women-only treatment facility can provide the support and understanding needed.

Supportive Environment for Personal Growth

Where you receive your care matters. At Legacy Outdoor Adventures, we aim to make you feel comfortable, respected, and supported. Our groups allow you to build bonds with others who can be there for you even after you leave us. An essential part of building bonds is group therapy.
  • Group Therapy: You meet with a therapist and others to discuss experiences and challenges.
