What Sets Our Benzo Addiction Treatment in Utah Apart

Medically Supervised Detox for Benzodiazepine Withdrawal

Detoxification is the first step to recovery from addiction. This is the process by which your body naturally removes substances, allowing the body and the brain to begin to heal. Throughout detox, withdrawal symptoms will occur and can vary in severity. In the case of benzodiazepine detox, withdrawal symptoms can become life-threatening.

As such, we utilize skilled medical professionals to offer supervised support to clients undergoing benzodiazepine detox. They don’t just make sure clients are safe and comfortable; they can also provide emergency healthcare in cases where a client experiences serious withdrawal symptoms. This immediate personalized attention ensures that each client in detox does so safely and comfortably.

Individualized Treatment Plans for Xanax, Valium, Ativan, and Klonopin Addiction

Each client will have unique needs that must be addressed during recovery. As such, our treatment options are equally varied and can be combined to create an individualized treatment plan. Though there are many drugs under the benzodiazepine label, each one can affect you differently and, as such, requires specialized treatment.

Some common benzodiazepine drugs that we offer individualized treatment for include:
  • Clonazepam (Klonopin)
  • Diazepam (Valium)
  • Lorazepam (Ativan)
  • Alprazolam (Xanax)

Evidence-Based Therapies: CBT, DBT, and Experiential Modalities

Our hybrid approach to addiction treatment includes various evidence-based therapies provided by licensed behavioral health treatment providers. Some examples include:
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT): Designed to help clients recognize and change harmful thought and behavioral patterns while developing healthy coping skills
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): Designed to help clients develop skills in the key areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Experiential modalities (adventure therapy): Designed to empower clients and help them develop several important internal skills, such as self-efficacy and courage
Legacy Outdoor Adventures offers other therapies for individualized needs, such as EMDR therapy for trauma and motivational interviewing (MI) for clients needing help with self-motivation. Each person’s treatment plan will vary, but CBT, DBT, and experiential modalities are considered core therapies.

Supportive Group Therapy & Peer Community

Having a supportive environment is critical for healing. Group therapy offers a safe place for clients to connect and receive mutual support. This creates a peer community, or campfire culture, that encourages clients to build healthy relationships with each other. The mutual support found at Legacy helps keep each other accountable and encourages the healing of deep, personal wounds.

Low Client-to-Staff Ratio for Personalized Care

With a low client-to-staff ratio, we can ensure each client receives individualized attention throughout treatment. Legacy Outdoor Adventures has the capacity for 24 clients, which also allows for personalized and exciting adventures into the Utah wilderness.

Aftercare & Long-Term Recovery Planning

We believe in comprehensive care and, as such, work with clients for long-term recovery planning. The Summit Graduation Phase is our way of ensuring that clients transition from treatment with the skills and planning needed for success. This program is embedded in our 90-day program and includes referrals and resources for further support post-treatment.

Program Highlights

Structured Inpatient & Residential Treatment Programs

Legacy’s 90-day residential treatment program includes inpatient support for clients detoxing from drugs and alcohol. Our team of medical, mental health care, and field professionals works together to create a structured experience that promotes healing and growth. We include client-centered treatment that integrates weekly progress monitoring to ensure clients meet targeted goals. Clients participate in daily activities that combine therapy, treatment, life skills building, socialization, outdoor adventures, and rest.

Individual and Group Therapy Sessions

Clients participate in both individual and group therapy sessions throughout the day, depending on their treatment plan. This allows clients to build positive working relationships with their providers and peers, which encourages them to foster healing through trust and mutual support.

Family Therapy & Loved One Involvement

The support of loved ones can give clients the support and courage they need to stick with treatment. Meanwhile, families often worry about how to best help their loved one and create a home environment that encourages continued recovery. As such, Legacy offers a Family Program that offers weekly therapeutic updates, family therapy sessions, workshops, support groups, and educational webinars.

Holistic Wellness Practices for Mental and Physical Health

Improving overall well-being and promoting whole-person healing is essential to lasting recovery. Holistic wellness practices, including utilizing the healing power of nature, can not only help you feel better mentally but also physically. As such, clients practice healthy lifestyle changes and practices during treatment, such as exercising, practicing mindfulness, and eating healthily.

These skills and practices are not just helpful during treatment. They offer valuable methods to help you manage stress, care for your health, and regulate emotions long after treatment is complete.

What to Expect From Our Benzo Addiction Treatment in Utah

Mindfulness, Medication Management, and Therapy Sessions

Benzodiazepine addiction treatment at Legacy involves a blend of medical, clinical, and holistic modalities for whole-person healing. Medication management is needed for benzo recovery, as quitting benzos immediately can result in serious complications.

Instead, clients must taper off benzos carefully through medication management, as well as receive medical help in managing withdrawal symptoms. This process is further helped with holistic methods, such as mindfulness and individual therapy sessions.

Individual Therapy, Group Therapy, and Experiential Activities

What you might participate in as part of your treatment will vary based on your individual needs. Clients struggling with trauma, for example, will receive trauma-informed care as part of their benzo addiction treatment plan. Generally, a treatment plan will consist of individual therapies (such as CBT), group therapy, and experiential activities (such as adventure therapy).

Reflection, Support Groups, and Rest

Our remote location allows clients to find rest and reflection in the Utah wilderness. Connecting with nature helps put problems into perspective as well as help clients relax away from the common distractions associated with modern life. This, along with our campfire culture, encourages clients to lean on each other, communicate, and trust again.

Family Therapy, Recreational Activities, and Community Engagement

Legacy believes in the power of moving forward as a means of continuous recovery. This can be anywhere from engaging with our sober community, learning to communicate effectively with loved ones through family therapy, and participating in therapeutic recreational activities. These activities serve a therapeutic purpose and help clients establish the skills needed for relapse prevention and lasting recovery.

What We Treat in Our Utah Program

Benzodiazepine Addiction & Cravings

Our treatment facility in Utah is equipped to treat a wide range of addictions and substance use disorders, including benzodiazepine addiction. Benzo detoxification at Legacy includes withdrawal and craving management, which is accomplished through medication-assisted treatment (MAT), clinical therapy, and holistic modalities.

Co-Occurring Mental Health Issues and Panic Disorders

Addictions and substance use disorders rarely occur alone. As such, we offer treatment for co-occurring disorders such as depression, anxiety, panic disorders, and other mental health issues, such as self-sabotage and low self-esteem. This way, we can address the issues that lead to or worsen substance use disorders.

Dual Diagnosis and Substance Use Disorders

A dual diagnosis is when someone has two or more mental health disorders that occur simultaneously. As such, substance abuse treatment on its own is often not enough for full recovery, as co-occurring disorders must be addressed at the same time. That’s why every treatment plan at Legacy is flexible and designed to treat a wide variety of co-occurring disorders. This personalized approach to treatment gives the best outcomes for lasting recovery.

Chronic Relapse and Opioid Use

Legacy utilizes a 90-day treatment program to identify and assist clients who may struggle with chronic relapse. Chronic relapse is a condition where a person has recurring addictive behaviors after periods of abstinence or successful treatment.

This cycle of addictive behavior, withdrawal, and relapse tends to become evident after 30 to 90 days. The time frame of our treatment program then allows the staff at Legacy to identify clients who may struggle with chronic relapse and offer targeted care. This is especially important for clients who mix benzos and opioids, as this combination can increase the risk of deadly overdose after periods of abstinence.

When to Seek Help for Benzodiazepine Addiction

Some signs you have a benzodiazepine addiction include:
  • Developing a tolerance to benzodiazepines
  • Taking benzodiazepines without a prescription or misusing an existing prescription
  • Cannot stop or reduce benzodiazepine use
  • Experiencing cravings and/or withdrawal symptoms when attempting to cut back or stop using benzodiazepines
  • Spending most of your time thinking about, using, and recovering from benzodiazepine use
  • Experiencing memory problems or cognitive issues due to benzodiazepine use
  • Withdrawing from social or professional responsibilities in favor of benzodiazepine use
  • Using benzodiazepines outside of their intended use as a coping mechanism
These signs can indicate a serious substance use disorder or addiction. Benzodiazepine withdrawal and addiction can be dangerous. If you or a loved one is experiencing any of these signs above, reach out for professional help right away.

Features of Our Benzo Addiction Treatment Program

Medication-Assisted Treatment & Taper Support

Benzodiazepines require careful tapering for safe detox, as well as medication-assisted treatment to manage withdrawal symptoms. Our team of medical professionals is committed to making detox a safe and comfortable experience for each client.

Relapse Prevention & Aftercare Planning

Our 90-day residential treatment program includes aftercare planning and support. Clients spent time in our sober living Summit House as a transitional period between further treatment, such as outpatient treatment, or returning to daily life. Our team plans for clients to continue to receive resources and support post-treatment, which can prevent relapse.

Support Groups & Recovery Community

Our alumni community is thriving around Legacy and offers a sober home for clients in and out of treatment. Clients have access to a large sober network in Utah that offers support and companionship to those in recovery. Many go on to have more adventures while taking advantage of all Utah has to offer, which prevents social isolation and shows our clients that there is joy in sobriety.

Whole-Person Wellness & Experiential Therapy

Addiction can take a serious toll on one’s mental and physical health. To best promote recovery, Legacy takes a whole-person approach to treatment that is designed to improve overall wellness. This is accomplished through the encouragement of healthy lifestyle changes and experiential therapies that encourage one to move their body and practice mindfulness.

Our recovery center in Utah is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment that encourages personal growth, inner reflection, and whole-person healing.
